I recently had the chance to experience the new Fairmont Austin, and I gotta say it’s a great new luxury hotel option for downtown Austin. It opened just recently in early March of 2018, and already it’s a big hit (and preeetty busy!). I’m a fan of Fairmonts, and have enjoyed staying at the Fairmont in Seattle, the Fairmont in San Francisco, and the Fairmont in Dallas. This Fairmont is the 2nd one in Texas, with the Dallas Fairmont being the first one.
I’m a member of the Fairmont President’s Club, which is their loyalty program, and if you stay at Fairmonts often enough, I recommend you sign up (it’s free!). When I checked into the hotel, I checked in at their Fairmont Gold lounge on the 35th floor and enjoyed a private arrival experience. Fairmont Gold provides the same benefits that you typically enjoy at club lounges at other hotels, and you’ll be contacted prior to check in by a dedicated Fairmont Gold Supervisor to ensure that they anticipate your needs prior to arrival. They’ll ask questions like if you need any transportation accommodations, potentially to/from the airport or to any destinations throughout your stay, if you’re celebrating any special occasions while you are staying with them (something a travel advisor like myself would let them know beforehand), if you need help with any reservations, etc. Here are some of the amenities you’ll enjoy when I book you with Fairmont Gold privileges:
- Private check-in
- Private lounge exclusive for Gold guests
- Healthy continental breakfast in lounge
- Afternoon canapés & honor bar
- Dedicated Fairmont Gold Manager
- Complimentary newspapers and personalized wake-up calls
- Computer access in lounge with high-speed Internet
- Complimentary use of board room in select locations
- In-room high-speed internet access
- Selection of DVDs, CD, books and games to enjoy at your leisure
The new Fairmont Austin has 37-stories and features 1,048 richly appointed guest rooms and suites (making it the largest in Austin) with beautiful views of Lady Bird Lake, or a dramatic cityscape and the State Capitol.
There is also a fabulous spa that offers nine treatment rooms, including two couple’s massage rooms, separate men’s and ladies’ locker facilities, Jacuzzi, steam, sauna, yoga/aerobics, dedicated relaxation room, full-service salon and a state-of-the-art fitness center located on Level 6. I loooove the Le Labo bathroom amenities that come with each room, I was happy to see that the size of the bottles were larger than I’ve experienced at other hotels with Le Labo bath products, so you’ll have more product to take home ;). I also noticed that they re-stocked our La Labo bath products when they came in for turndown service, which was a nice touch.
I only had a chance to experience the food in the Gold lounge, and I gotta say I was impressed. On the website it says that it’s a continental breakfast, but we enjoyed a chef that made fresh breakfast tacos, omelettes, sunny side up eggs, (you name it) on the spot, and they also had a great spread of fruit, baked goods (bread, bagels, muffins, cookies, etc), oatmeal with fantastic toppings, bacon, breakfast sausage, potato hash, a salmon & lox station, a gourmet coffee station, a fridge stocked with amazing drinks like juices and even Picnik Bulletproof Coffee. They also had a fabulous Mimosa honor bar, and the food was delicious with incredible views of the Austin skyline.
When it comes to dining option at the new Fairmont Austin, the hotel boasts five restaurants and bars, located throughout the hotel. They have four offerings at Revue on the hotel’s ground level which include Italian, Asian, raw bar, and French bakery, as well as a steakhouse called Garrison. They also have an indoor and outdoor bar space on the 7th floor called Rules and Regs, and I highly recommend a nightcap there with incredible views of the downtown Austin skyline.
During the day, their massive pool area is a must, it’s also on the 7th floor and has sweeping views of Lady Bird Lake to downtown Austin to the Capitol. They have a generous amount of cabanas equipped with fans, televisions, and yeti coolers to ensure your refreshments stay cool. They also have a beautiful patio area and an additional bar, which is great for small events or just for lounging.
They also have a very ample bar area in the lobby, which is great for an afternoon cocktail or a night cap.The decor throughout the lobby is very avant garde with surreal elements like indoor trees and eclectic touches, but it all seems to come together harmoniously in a bright and cheerful environment.
