I recently had the chance of a lifetime as a Driven Ambassador of Lexus of Austin and Lexus of Lakeway at the annual Ride. Drive. Give. event benefitting the Center for Child Protection in Austin. I got to drive a Ferrari 458 Italia at the Formula 1 track with a professional race car driver guiding me, and I took the car up to a whopping 130 mph!!
The Center for Child Protection is s a nationally accredited children’s advocacy center and the only non-profit in Travis County involved in the investigation of crimes against children. They are the first stop for children in Travis county that are suspected victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect and for children who have witnessed a violent crime. It’s an incredible organization, and Lexus of Austin/Lexus of Lakeway are one of its biggest supporters. When you purchase a ticket to Ride. Drive. Give., you’re supporting the Center’s efforts and you get to have an exhilarating and unique experience full of adrenaline and excitement.
You have the option of driving your own car on the Circuit of the Americas Formula 1 Track, taking a “hot lap” in an exotic vehicle with a professional driver so you get an understanding of what some of the world’s highest performing vehicles can do, or having the ultimate experience of driving an exotic vehicle yourself, being guided by a professional driver as you zoom your way through the race track.
I started the day with a brief safety briefing that went over proper driving procedures for the track, then we did a few discovery laps around the track with a professional driver so we could familiarize ourselves with the track. Next, I got to drive a Lexus RC F, a high performance Lexus with a 5.0-liter V8 engine and 467 horsepower. I took that puppy up to 113 mph on the straight away, and was really impressed with how smooth yet responsive the car was! After that, I got to take a “hot lap” in a Lexus LFA, a supercar driven by it’s owner, and he was able to rev the car up to 150 mph in the straightaway–to say I was a bit scared is an understatement!! Last but not least, I got to drive the Ferrari 458 Italia–it was the highlight of my day! You could feel the power of the car and engine the second you turn it on, and with the guidance of the professional driver coaching me in the passenger seat, I got the car up to 130 mph, which was a mind blowing experience!
