SXSW is a fantastic time for brands to unveil new products and services, and during the 2017 festival Schlotzsky’s put together a fantastic event at Trinity Hall to share their three new brisket sandwiches with those in attendance.  Schlotzsky’s is paying homage to it’s Austin heritage and Texas roots, by developing three new brisket sandwiches that are now available nationwide!

The new hand-crafted brisket sandwich options are the Traditional, the Cuban, and the Tex-Mex. The Traditional Brisket sandwich is made with hickory-smoked brisket, mozzarella, cheddar and Parmesan cheeses (because one type of cheese is just not enough), tangy BBQ sauce, sliced dill pickles and crunchy red onions. Of course, all of their sandwiches are served on their famous toasted sourdough buns. The Cuban Brisket (my favorite and pictured in this post) is made with hickory-smoked brisket, ham, Swiss cheese, BBQ sauce, Dijon mustard and sliced dill pickles (just like a delicious cuban sanwich) and served on a jalapeño cheese bun. Last but not least, the Tex-Mex Brisket sandwich is made with hickory-smoked brisket, queso fresco, cheddar cheese, salsa verde, smoky roasted red peppers, pickled jalapeños, lettuce and chipotle mayonnaise, and it’s also served on a flavorful jalapeño cheese bun.

Schlotzsky’s Brisket Sandwiches | The Hungry Chronicles

As a kid, my mom would take my brother and I to Schlotzky’s in McAllen after soccer practice, CCD, music lessons, or whatever we had going on, and that was my first (memorable) introduction to their unbelievable sourdough bread! Because I’ve seen so many Schlotzky’s locations in many towns across several states in the US, I had no idea that the company started in Austin in 1971.

Although they’re the “home of The Original® oven-baked sandwich”, they’ve expanded their menu throughout the years to include gourmet pizzas, Artisan flatbreads, handcrafted Macs, freshly made-to- order salads (that I had several times a week while I was in college!), savory soups, and more.
