The only thing better than Loro opening earlier this year is the new happy hour at Loro. The Asian smokehouse from acclaimed Chefs Tyson Cole and Aaron Franklin recently launched a happy hour menu that is available Monday through Friday from 2:30-5:00 PM (I know–kind of unusual hours for happy hour, but let’s face it, they can kind of do whatever they want).
The happy hour offers ½ off selected beer and wine and ½ off their delicious boozy slushees, like their Frozen Gin & Tonic and Mango Sake Slushee (they’re just $4!).
The bites available include three options exclusive to the happy hour menu – Salmon Belly Tartare, served with cucumber, sesame and cilantro on puffed tapioca rice crackers ($7), Brisket Tostadas, featuring chopped brisket with shishito salsa verde on fried corn tortillas ($7), and a Burger with patty made from a mix of prime brisket and smoked bavette, with red onion brisket jam, Muenster cheese, jalapeno aioli, pickles and butter lettuce on a brioche bun ($8). The Chicken Karaage (my personal favorite), which also appears on Loro’s regular menu, rounds out the happy hour offering ($6).
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and at the moment is still pretty popular, so it’s not unusual to have to wait a couple of minutes in line but it’s totally worth it. The concept is simple, where you order your food and your drinks at the counter and they’re then brought out to your table.
They have a beautiful outdoor patio and seating area outside, so it’s perfect for casual lunches and dinners underneath the shade of the big oak tree. If you make it in time for dinner, then the Smoked Beef Brisket with chili gastrique and thai herbs is a must (starting at 5pm). Their most popular menu item (which comes at no surprise once you try it) is their Crunchy Sweet Corn Fritters served with sriracha aioli and cilantro, and the Kale & Asian Pear Salad with hazelnut, cabbage, dashi, and mint is a must, I highly recommend it with the smoked salmon.
