Four Seasons Austin Weekend Getaway

Recently I was able to do a little weekend getaway to the newly remodeled Four Seasons Austin, and I’m loving every bit of it.  The new modern look and feel of the Four Seasons Austin blends bright and luxe interiors with a casual Texas vibe. It’s central location in Downtown Austin is perfect for exploring the many restaurants and fun bars in the downtown area, and the newly remodeled lobby bar/deck is a prime spot for viewing the phenomenon that is the procession of the South Congress bridge bats. Of course, being right on Lady Bird Lake makes it a fantastic spot to enjoy kayaking and paddle boarding, and the saltwater pool is a great spot to cool down after a long sunny day.

The rooms also received a new facelift in the last few months, keeping the heavenly beds and breathing new life into now bright  and serene interiors. I highly recommend staying in one of the Lake View Rooms vs. City View Rooms, to take advantage of the lovely sights of Lady Bird Lake, and to avoid the reminder of all of the growth occurring in downtown Austin (i.e. tons of construction).

Here are just some of the many ways you can enjoy your stay at Four Seasons Austin:

Enjoy some pre-dinner drinks on the Live Oak deck, their bar that serves inventive cocktails and Guadalajara-inspired bites  I highly recommend trying their signature drink, “El Murcielago” (the bat), made with Kimo Sabe Mezcal, Morita Chile, Aperol, Guava, Pineapple, and Lime.

After you’ve cooled down with some cocktails, head downstairs to Ciclo, Four Season Austin’s flagship restaurant that is a result of a magnanimous collaboration between Chef James Flowers and world-renowned restaurateur Richard Sandoval. Some of the highlights from their seasonal summer menu include the Parker House rolls, Ceviche Amarillo (which you can also learn how to make in a fun hands-on class with Chef James), the Cabrito, the Pork Belly “al Pastor”, and so much more.

Definitely don’t forget to save some room for dessert! Executive Pastry Chef Amanda Pallagi-Naim is a genius, and has created some really fun and whimsical desserts such as the Very Berry Bon Bons.  If you like coconut, don’t forget to ask for a scoop of their coconut sorbet–it’s incredible.

After a fantastic dinner, you can enjoy a nightcap in the comfort of your room, by hitting the “margarita cart” button on the phone in your room.  You’ll be delighted to be visited by the Four Seasons Austin margarita cart, and you’ll be able to pick from a menu of fantastic tequila libations.

If you have a little time to give back to yourself, make sure to book yourself a nice spa treatment for a little R & R. They offer a variety of services that include massages, facials, and body treatments, as well as a relaxing eucalytpus steam room and himalayan salt wall in the relaxation lounge.

I recommend enjoying your spa treatment on Sunday morning, then hitting up the famous Four Seasons Austin brunch at Ciclo.  It’s an all-you-can-eat experience, and believe me you’ll want to try just about everything.  These are just some of the food items you will get to enjoy: fresh fruits and berries, homemade granola, fresh yogurt, iced shrimp and crab claws, sushi, salmon and lox, deviled eggs, caviar, a variety of delicious salads, breakfast items like pancakes, sausage, omelette station, eggs benedict, an assortment of freshly baked breads and pastries, and a hot foods station that includes a smoked prime ribeye carving station, roasted pork tenderloin, and so much more. Another section is filled with the most beautiful and delicious desserts–it can turn into a several hour ordeal (and why not?).

LOWEdown: Make sure to ask hotel staff at what time the bats come out of the South Congress bridge, and make sure to snag a seat on their beautiful outdoor deck with a refreshing drink to watch the phenomena of over a million bats heading out at sunset to catch some dinner.
