Hotel Review: Chedi Andermatt

[et_pb_section bb_built=”1″][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.92″ background_layout=”light”]

One of the most impressive hotels that I’ve been able to experience on my global travels is The Chedi in Andermatt, Switzerland.  Nestled in the alpine valley in the south of Switzerland close to the Italian border, the Chedi Andermatt seamlessly combines the grandeur of a swiss lodge with zen Asian influences to create a luxuriously relaxing getaway.

Chedi Andermatt Rooms/Resort

The Chedi Andermatt has some of the largest entry-level rooms that I’ve ever seen, the smallest starting at 560 square feet and the largest suite at over 3500 square feet. Each of the 123 rooms or suites has its own fireplace and balcony, tub, rain shower, and fantastic amenities to create the perfect sanctuary to relax.

Chedi Andermatt Activities

The Chedi Andermatt is a fantastic holiday destination no matter what time of year, as it becomes popular with the ski crowd in the winter and for outdoor family outings and adventure in the summer. The Chedi Andermatt offers an exclusive ski and sports butler service for guests, which can arrange for ski passes, golf tee times, and sporting activities of all types which include all necessary equipment.  Whether you want to ski, snowboard, cross country ski, or sled, they can take care of it all for you. Mountain driving also tends to be popular during the summer, especially since there are so many beautiful passes including the Furka, Oberalp, and Gotthard Pass.  It’s also easily accessible by Switzerland’s super convenient train system, and is close to Zurich, Lucerne, and Milan. It’s also very easy to visit the nearby towns by train, and the entire ride is incredibly scenic.

Chedi Andermatt Spa

The Chedi Andermatt’s 25,000+ square foot spa is just as much a destination as the alpine village is.  It has one of the most impressive hammams that I’ve ever seen, complete with two steam rooms of varying temperatures, two saunas of varying temperatures (I could hardly last 10 minutes in the 90 degree celsius sauna—that’s 194 degrees farenheit!), a cold plunge pool, and two zen pools of varying temperatures as well.  Of course, there are also treatment rooms with world-class spa services, so there’s something for everyone and not experiencing the spa while staying here means you didn’t really get to experience the resort at all.

The resort also has a fantastic 115 foot-long indoor lap pool featuring a stunning glass roof and beautiful views of the Alps, as well as an outdoor temperature controlled pool that can be used year round.

Chedi Andermatt Dining

The resort has two restaurants: one features four open kitchens where western and Asian flavors meet, including an impressive cheese room with the tallest cheese tower in Europe.  This is where breakfast is also enjoyed, with a variety of breads, jams, cereals, juices, and hot and cold options to choose from.  The other fantastic dining option is their Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant that offers both modern and traditional Japanese dishes that include sushi and sashimi.  They also have a fabulous wine bar that is great for après ski or for a sundowner, as well as a cigar lounge  and Chalet which is open only during the winter months.  You can also opt to enjoy afternoon tea on the patio outside, as well as a lovely lunch.

Andermatt the town

Andermatt is a small town in the Ursern Valley in the Swiss Alps, and is most known for The Chedi, as well as a cameo that it made in the James Bond film Goldfinger.  A cable car offers access to Gemsstock ski area and a chairlift links the village with Nätschen’s more gentle slopes. You can easily walk the town in 2 hours or less, and the Chedi can help make arrangements to do a guided tour with a very knowledgeable gentleman that will give you some interesting history about Switzerland, the area, the town, and of course take you to Andermatt’s most notable locales.
